Caring for your custom apparel

To keep your Direct-to-Film (DTF) and Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) shirts from cracking, peeling, or fading, always follow these essential guidelines. Proper care ensures your designs remain vibrant and your apparel stays in excellent condition.

Before the first wash

Wait 24 to 48 hours before washing a newly printed or pressed shirt. This allows the adhesive to fully cure and bond with the fabric, ensuring maximum durability for your custom design.

Washing rules for longevity

  • Turn inside out: Protects the graphic from rubbing against other garments or the washing machine drum.
  • Use cold water: Keep temperatures below 86°F (30°C). Hot water can soften the bonding glue and compromise the design.
  • Gentle cycle: Reduces mechanical stress and stretching on the print, preserving its quality.
  • Mild detergent: Skip bleach, heavy-duty stain removers, and fabric softeners, as these can leave chemical residues that weaken the adhesive.

Drying and storage tips

  • Air dry: Hanging or laying flat in the shade is the safest option for drying your custom apparel.
  • Tumble dry low: If using a machine, select the lowest heat setting and remove the shirt promptly to prevent excessive heat exposure.
  • No direct heat: Avoid ironing directly on the image or using high heat, as this can damage the design.

Important don'ts for your apparel

To ensure the longevity of your custom designs, never apply direct heat or iron directly on the image. High heat can cause the design to crack, peel, or fade prematurely.
